Choose the right air conditioner according to the room size
Adjust the thermostat temperature to 26°C
The appropriate room temperature is determined by a difference of 5 to 7 degrees between the room and outside temperatures. Set the thermostat at 26° C to achieve both good thermal comfort and low energy use.
An increase in the temperature difference of 1degree equals an increase in the electricity consumption of 6 to 10%.
Close doors and windows, draw curtains
When using an air conditioner, close all the doors and windows, and draw the curtains on sunny windows if possible. This helps to keep the room temperature, lowers the electricity consumption and reduces the electric bill effectively. Also check that the tubes connecting the outside to the inside part of the air conditioner are tightly closed.
Avoid indoor heat loads
The air conditioner takes care of all heat sources in the room: from the sun, hot air, cooking, people, lighting and other appliances. Avoid excessive use of light and other appliances while using the air conditioner.
Clean the air conditioner regularly
Clean the filters of the air conditioner 2 to 3 times annually: once before the first use every summer, once during the summer, and possibly a last time after stopping using the air conditioner every autumn before covering it. This can save the first cleaning of the next year.
