Top10-Sina "Green New Year": How Is the Energy-saving Refrigerator Working?
The lucky first-prize winner in Top10 (Sina weibo) "Green Christmas" was awarded an energy-saving refrigerator, which had been tested and verified by Top10. She began to use the refrigerator on March 1st 2011, and the following was a comparison of his electricity bills before and after:
January: 31 days 81Kwh 89yuan February: 28 days 78Kwh 86yuan March: 31 days 46Kwh 51yuan April: 30 days 45Kwh 50yuan
The old refrigerator was used in January and February, while the energy-saving refrigerator was put into use since March. Other home appliances remain the same.
Note: in the residential area where the user lives, electricity price for industrial use was 1.1 yuan per Kwh, while standard residential electricity price in Beijing was 0.4883 yuan per Kwh.
User Feedback:
Much more expensive than "normal" refrigerators, energy-saving fridges only help make an unimpressive cut on the electricity bill. Are they really worth the price? To find out the answer to this question, I actually made a thorough calculation: the electricity price in my residential area is 1.1 yuan per Kwh, and therefore in a 31-day month, I used to pay some 88 yuan for electricity with the old refrigerator as the average monthly consumption was around 80 Kwh; but with the new fridge, electricity consumption is now cut to 46 Kwh, and the monthly bill has gone down 37 yuan to 51, that is equal to 444 yuan saved in a year. For the average life span of a fridge, which is normally 15 years, an energy-saving fridge would save me a total of 6660 yuan!
In this perspective, energy-saving home appliances are worth their cost in the long term, and can really save us a lot of money.
