Top10 China presents the most energy efficient panel LCD TVs on Chinese market.

1. Scope

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel TV for the household or similar using.

The maximum screen size is below 55 inches.

2. Selection criteria

To be selected into the Top10 product list, the LCD panel TVs must meet national energy efficiency grade 1 requirement and perform in the most efficient way according to the energy efficiency of TV both in the energy efficiency index and standby mode power:

3. Terms

Electricity cost (10 years): The electricity cost of the LCD TV in 10 years, according to the annual electricity consumption below. The electricity price is set at 0.5 RMB per kWh. Unit: RMB.

Annual electricity consumption: The electricity consumed by the LCD TV within one year. According to the market analysis report (click here), the typical using time per year of the monitor is set at 1080 hours of on mode and 842 hours of standby mode. Unit: kWh.

Display size: The diagonal line of the screen display area. Unit: Inch.

Image format: The ratio of the width of the screen display area to its height.

Display resolution: The number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. Unit: pixel.

Brightness: The image’s typical brightness (luminance)．Unit: Candela per square meter (cd/m2).

Backlight type source: Backlights illuminate the LCD from the side or back of the display panel. The typical LCD sources are: LED or CCFL. Generally, the efficiency of LED backlight is higher that the CCFL backlight.

High definition: Indication of the TV’s high definition support and format. Typical high definition includes: 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

On mode power: The power of the TV when the TV is in on mode (working mode). On mode is the operational mode of a display that is (i) connected to an external power source, (ii) has all mechanical (hard) power switches turned on, and (iii) is performing its primary function of producing an image. Unit: W.

Standby mode power: The power of the TV when the TV is set at the standby mode. Standby mode is set by the instruction from the manufacturers. Unit: W.

Energy efficiency index: The indicator to show the efficiency of the TV. According to the national energy efficiency standards for panel TV (GB 24850-2010), it’s the ratio between the tested energy efficiency and baseline value (1.10 for LCD TV). The higher of the TV’s energy efficiency index, the better of the energy performance.

National energy efficiency grade: The mandatory grading system for energy using products to disclose the energy performance to the consumers. Grade 3 is the minimum energy efficiency requirement for the market access and Grade 1 is the best for the panel-TVs.
